MSR has branched out into the pole market and their Dynalock Explore model is a burly three-piece number with winter exploration in mind. It packs down short, which is convenient for storage, and durable foam extends from the handle, making for extra grip when you need it. One caveat: while the Explores are great for low-impact activities like snowshoeing, they do take a beating at the ski hill.
